10 Commandments of Safety

Hunting season has started and it doesn't hurt to review the 10 Commandments of Safety.

1. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction.
2. Guns should be unloaded when not actually in use.
3. Don't rely on your gun's "safety". Treat every gun as if it can fire at any time.
4. Be sure of your target and what's beyond it. Once you pull the trigger you can't stop it.
5. Always use the correct ammunition.
6. If your gun fails to fire when the trigger is pulled, handle with care.
7. Always wear eye and ear protection when shooting.
8. Be sure the barrel is clear of obstructions before shooting.
9. Don't alter or modify your gun and have guns serviced regularly.
10. Lean the mechanical and handling characteristics of the firearm you are using.

A Final Thought: There's one other rule you must follow when handling firearms. In fact, respect to this rule is necessary in order to effectively practice the ten commandments of safety. The rule is: shoot sober!!!!

Archery

Thanks to Andy E., Duane S. and Bob W., new bails have been installed at the archery range. For you archery shooters who are wondering what the big light pole is doing at the shooting stand, it is for you to put your own portable deer stand against in order for you to practice shooting in the down angle. Use your safety harnes. Be safe

open house

The Club will be holding an open house on the 27th of this month in conjunction with National Hunting and Fishing Day and our club raffle.
Burgers and brats will be served beginning at noon. A free will offering is asked but not required.
At 2:00 pm, the raffle will be held. A small number of tickets are still available for purchase.

grass fire

A fire was started at the range a couple of weeks ago. It was caused by shooters who were firing incendiary ammo. A round bounced into the dry grass and before it could be put out, it burned both the 200 and 100 yard back berm. The Babbitt Fire Department was called out and between the Fire Department and the shooters, it was quickly brought under control.

This has been the first time that something like this has occurred and rather than "ban" ammo, the membership, after much discussion, decided that when the fire danger in our area is high, signs on all three ranges would be posted stating: "due to extreme wildfire danger, these ranges are temporily closed to incendary ammo".

The grass is already growing back.
